26 Solutions Selected As Winners Of USD 1 Mn Africa Online Safety Initiative

Twenty-six solutions were announced as winners of the Africa Online Safety Initiative grant worth USD 1 Mn. Seven solutions were selected from Kenya (ChildFund International, Epuka Ugaidi, Lonamac, SheHacks Kenya, Sote Information & Communication Technology, PAJAN Kenya, and Winam Wezesha Accelerator), six solutions from South Africa (Dream Factory Foundation, Centre for Analytics & Behavioural Change, EndCode, Fundanii, Global Leading Light Initiatives, and Media Monitoring Africa), six solutions from Nigeria (Hive Creative Guild, Teens Can Code, LagosMums, Epower, Read Nigeria Book Reading Club, and Velma Foundation), two solutions from Ethiopia (University of Gondar, and Iceaddis), and one solution each from Senegal, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Malawi, and Tanzania which includes Save the Children International, Aydia Technology Consultants, Action et Humanisme, Mzuzu Entrepreneur Hub, and Tanzania Trans Initiative respectively.

The Africa Online Safety Fund was launched by South African social impact advisory firm, Impact Amplifier, UK-based ISD, and Google.org in July 2020. The fund aimed to support organisations that address safety issues around the internet, such as identity theft, bullying and harassment, sex trafficking, hate crimes, terrorist recruitment and promotion, misinformation and disinformation, and financial scams.
