In the aftermath of their earlier triumph in May 2018’s Imagine Cup Egypt, Egyptian startup, Beach Safer, along with two other winning startups from Turkey and Pakistan, will now be participating in the 2018 edition of the Imagine Cup World Final scheduled to take place in Seattle, U.S.A, between 23rd and 25th July, 2018.

Having emerged victorious in the Africa Regional Final of the competition, the startup will now be setting its sights on doing battle with other regional winners of the Microsoft-sponsored competition from around the globe, for a chance to take home the prize money valued at around USD 100 K.

The 16th edition of the Imagine Cup global technology competition looks set to once again afford young student entrepreneurs and developers the opportunity to acquire new, critical, technical, business, and team-building skills, whilst providing an incentive in the way of a chance to win a huge amount in prize money.

The Regional Final saw six teams comprising startups from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey compete having been selected from an initial application which featured over seven thousand entries from various parts of the region. By virtue of the competition’s blueprint, this round of the competition was in the form of an online pitching contest where each of the applicants was scrutinized and judged based on innovation, technology level, feasibility, capacity, and concept.

The initiative is in line with Microsoft’s belief in the potentials currently held by the youth in shaping the future of world economies. As pointed out by Khaled Abd El Kader, General Manager Microsoft Egypt; “At Microsoft, we believe that the youth of today shape the future of a country, and we want to ensure that irrespective of their background, talented youth in Egypt get the support they require in order to fulfill their dreams.” He further revealed his satisfaction at the quality of entries received during this course of the latest edition. According to him; “The quality of entries this year was remarkable, which is a clear indicator that technology students in Egypt are not only keeping pace with their international counterparts, but also spearheading technological innovation in the country and beyond in various ways.”

Mik Chernomordikov, Director Microsoft Middle East and Africa, expressed his delight at the new trend of proliferation of technologies and innovation. In his words; “it is great to see how students and new technologies meet to “Code with a Purpose” and help the world to become a better place. Being one of the Judges at the Regional Final, I was happy to see great ideas, new technologies, and real problems solved by students across the region.” The Director also talked up the role of Imagine Cup in unearthing some of the finest and most-promising technological and innovative talents, being one of the biggest global technology student competition. He also wished the winning teams a slice of good fortune in their bid to come away from the upcoming World Final with laurels; a move which he expects will transform their current projects into successful products and potential world-beaters in the future.

The World Final of the 2018 Microsoft Innovation Cup is scheduled to hold in Seattle, U.S.A, from 23rd to 25th July 2018.
