The Nigerian government has been taking considerable steps to improve the business space of the country, much of which has led to fair development in the said environment. The most recent initiative by the West African country’s federal leadership is an app which has been contrived to further better the way Nigerians do business.

Minister for Industries, Trade, and Investments, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, in what was an official unveiling, introduced the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council PEBEC REPORTGOV.NG app in Lagos. The launch was done during the Regulatory Conversations 3.0 event with the theme “Improving Transparency and Ease of Doing Business In Nigeria.”

According to Enelamah, the interactive mobile application has been designed to provide the opportunity for Nigerians to interact with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the areas of service delivery and resolution complaints. Being that ease of doing business in Nigeria continues to gain traction, the app will serve as a medium through which the MDAs involved in the implementation of the policies will receive feedback from the public as regards impacts.

Per the minister’s report, the PEBEC App launch is part of the Federal Government’s attempt to create room for engagement and interaction between the government and stakeholders, in an effort to significantly better the business environment of the country.

PEBEC Council member Adedotun Sulaiman, from the private sector, described the launch of the initiative as a welcome development in addressing the bottlenecks often encountered in achieving the ease of doing business. He said that the app would serve as a platform on which reservations can be channeled through to the appropriate quarters for prompt resolution.

Per his impression, the app will track every lodged complaint from the part of Nigerians. Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director-General Muda Yusuf said the app is a gamechanger, one which has all the makings of an initiative that will transform the Nigerian business landscape.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industries, Trade, and Investments, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, who said the launch of the app was part of the step to effect business reforms, noted that it was the outcome of the Executive Order 01 by the Muhammadu Buhari administration. According to her, the app is being rolled out under the auspices of the said Order’s “Ease of Doing Business,” which sheds the limelight on the promotion of transparency and efficiency in the business environment.

Per her statement, a high level of success across several areas has been recorded, and MDAs have made significant improvements.

“Many have taken up the challenge to deliver more transparent and efficient services to their customers in alignment with EO1, with a number of notable milestones achieved, such as an increase in the number of MDAs that have functional websites containing detailed information about their services or statutory functions, as well as improved collaboration among MDAs” Oduwole said .

PEBEC REPORTGOV.NG mobile app available for Android users, and will soon be included on the iOS store to widen the perspective.

PEBEC was established in July 2016 to remove delays as well as restrictions that come with doing business in Nigeria, and make the country an easier place to start and grow a business. Supported by Executive Order 01 (EO1) signed in 2017 to promote transparency and efficiency in the business environment, PEBEC was created to drive EO1’s six directives, which aim to address specific limitations identified in the civil and public service systems.
