2 Kenyan Startups Secure Grants To Enhance Women’s Digital Access To Loans And Micro-Insurance

African Development Bank Group (AfDB) through its Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility has invested USD 1 Mn and 300 K in grant funding to two Kenyan startups, Pula Advisors Kenya Ltd., and M-KOPA. The grant was approved for two research efforts to enhance women’s digital access to loans and micro-insurance.

Pula, an agri-insurance platform, will use the USD 1 Mn grant funding for research of social, cultural and economic factors that impact women farmers’ access to micro-insurance in Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia. M-KOPA, an asset financing platform and solar systems provider, will use the USD 300 K grant for research involving 250 women and 250 men in Kenya’s Kisumu, Eldoret, and Machakos counties.
