Kenyan startup, Pine Kazi secured USD 2 K after being named winner of the Fashionomics Africa initiative, an initiative organised by the African Development Bank in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program, the Parsons School of Design and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
Pine Kazi operates as a shoe design manufacturer, converting pineapple leaf and recycled rubber into footwears. The brand uses pineapple textile for the upper part of the shoe, lined with organic cotton, and the sole made from sisal plant fiber, fitted with recycled tyres.
