Three Tanzanian startups received grant funding in the inaugural edition of the Wazo Challenge Tanzania launched in February 2021 by Startup Réseau. The startup competition was aimed at 18 – 30-year-old Tanzanian entrepreneurs, who have an idea to solve a local business or consumer problem, by use of technology.
The Wazo Challenge Tanzania was based on 12 startups selected from an application pool of 150 startups that focused on 5 themes. As a part of the program, Startup Réseau hosted a Venture Bootcamp, wherein 10 high-potential founders were selected for a 4-week venture mentorship and leadership development boot camp, that was delivered by successful founders, industry leaders, domain experts, and investors from Startup Réseau’s global network.
Kikoba App, a fintech startup that helps savings groups to manage and collect funds, loan cash easily received a cash grant of USD 5 K; MedPack, a B2C pharmacy service that sorts your medication by dosage and delivers directly to your door received USD 2 K; Mipango, a fintech startup enables users to manage their income, expenses, savings, financial targets, help, and offerings received USD 3 K.
