Kenyan-Based Edutech Startup Kukua Raises USD 6 Mn Series A Round

Kukua, a Nairobi-based educational entertainment startup, which is the creator of the cartoon superhero brand Super Sema, has raised USD 6 Mn in a Series A round. The round was sponsored by Tencent Investments and Italy-based VC Alchimia. Other investors in the round include EchoVC, FirstMinute Capital, and Auxxo Female Catalyst.

Kukua is an educational entertainment company building a pan-African children’s franchise around Super Sema, one of Africa’s first animated child heroines. Sema is brought to life with an animated TV Series, educational games, and toys. The funding will help it continue to establish an IP-centric kids’ edutainment ecosystem with new Super Sema original content, licensing, retail, and publishing options.
