Two African businesses have reached their minimum funding goals, raising over R6 million (USD 345 K) in just six weeks through equity crowdfunding. The fundraiser was facilitated by GoGetta, a newly launched equity-based crowdfunding platform focused exclusively on African businesses.
The two startups include Shuthuka Flagship Farm, a macadamia farming operation based in KwaZulu-Natal, which raised R4 million (USD 231 K) in funding for expansion, and Trailored, a Gauteng-based manufacturer of customized trailers, which raised R2.275 million (131 K).
GoGetta is an equity-based crowdfunding platform, bringing quality venture capital opportunities to investors worldwide and giving Africa’s entrepreneurs the platform to raise capital. Investors can invest in various businesses from R1000 (about 60 USD). Venture capital group WDB Growth Fund, a subsidiary of WDB Investment Holdings, provided a substantial portion of the funding for Shuthuka and also invested in Trailored. The balance was funded by individual investors or the crowd.
