Kenyan Online Pharmacy MYDAWA Raises USD 20 M, Acquires Uganda’s Guardian Health

MYDAWA, a Kenya-based health-tech startup operating an online pharmacy, has raised USD 20 M from Alta Semper Capital, a private equity firm. The round marks Alta Semper’s entry into Eastern Africa’s digital healthcare space. Additionally, MyDawa has acquired Uganda’s Guardian Health, one of the many acquisitions and collaborations it aims to make as it expands beyond Kenya. The growth plans will be steered by new CEO Priscilla Muhiu, formerly of Glovo Kenya. Guardian Health currently has a network of 19 pharmacy stores in Kampala and other areas in Uganda.

MyDAWA is a technology-based service that enables consumers to purchase authentic, high-quality medicines and health and wellness products. The platform features a unique track and trace mechanism that consumers can use to verify the authenticity of products from the source while offering convenience and privacy to the consumer. Visitors to its website can book consultations, upload HIV test results, submit a prescription, learn about sexual wellness, and much more.
