Nigerian legal tech startup PocketLawyers has secured an undisclosed investment from Nubia Capital to expand its AI-powered legal tools across Africa. The platform, developed by lawyer Ngozi Nwabueze, aims to slash the time-consuming legal processes that hinder businesses on the continent.
PocketLawyers’ flagship product, PocketAI, automates legal research, document drafting, invoicing, and case management—reducing tasks that typically take weeks to just minutes. The startup emerged from FirstFounders, a venture studio that builds startups efficiently; a model behind successes like Twitter (now X).
“Over 80% of African SMEs lack formal legal structures. PocketLawyers is building the infrastructure to change that,” said Davidson Oturu, General Partner at Nubia Capital.
The funding will help PocketLawyers scale its reach, reinforcing Africa’s growing legal tech space.
