Moroccan superapp startup Ora Technologies has acquired Cathedis, a Casablanca-based last-mile delivery company, to strengthen its bid to become Morocco’s dominant digital platform. The deal, for an undisclosed amount, comes just months after Cathedis raised a Series A round in July.
Ora operates Ora Cash, a mobile wallet, and Kooul, its e-commerce and delivery arm. By integrating Cathedis’s logistics network, Ora gains direct control over the delivery chain, which could be a crucial differentiator in Morocco’s competitive market.
Cathedis, founded in 2019, has built a reputation for digitised urban delivery and serves more than 700 clients with a parcel-sorting capacity of 4,000 per hour.
The acquisition signals a maturing Moroccan startup ecosystem where local capital is driving consolidation. Ora recently raised a USD 7.5 M Series A led by Azur Innovation Management, part of a growing trend in Africa where startups are deploying venture funding as a war chest for acquisitions rather than relying solely on organic growth. If successfully integrated, Ora could emerge as a formidable homegrown challenger to international players like Glovo.
