Street Wallet Acquires Digitip To Expand Digital Tipping & Payments In SA

South African mobile payments company Street Wallet has acquired Digitip, a 2023-founded startup that enables independent service providers—such as street vendors and tip-dependent workers—to receive digital gratuities. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Street Wallet’s platform allows merchants to accept payments via a QR code-enabled card, eliminating the need for smartphones or traditional bank accounts. Customers can pay using apps like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, or SnapScan. The acquisition strengthens Street Wallet’s reach in KwaZulu-Natal and integrates Digitip’s partnership with ABSA CashSend, enabling smoother money transfers and faster payouts.

Digitip founder Monica Nilsen called the deal a “game-changer,” noting that users will now benefit from daily payouts, lower transaction costs, and a more advanced payments experience.

Street Wallet, currently valued at over USD 2 M, raised USD 350 K last month to expand its sales force and extend services to more communities. CEO Kosta Scholiadis said the acquisition reinforces its mission to bring digital payments to South Africa’s informal economy.
