Algerian travel-tech startup Völz, founded in 2022 by Mohamed Abdelhadi Mezi and Hacene Seghier, has raised DZD 600 M (~USD 5 M) from local private investors in one of the country’s largest disclosed startup rounds denominated in local currency. The deal is notable for delivering the first-ever exit for the Algerian Startup Fund (ASF), which achieved a 3.35x ROI, offering long-awaited validation for Algeria’s public VC model.
The round was led by Tell Group and GIBA (Babahoum Group), signalling growing interest from traditional industrial conglomerates in tech assets. Völz, an online travel agency built around Algeria’s strict currency controls, enables users to book international flights in Algerian Dinar and supports cash-on-delivery, a key adoption driver in largely unbanked markets.
The funding will automate backend systems, strengthen engineering capacity, and support a new commercial partnership with Turkish Airlines, as Völz targets B2B travel and nurtures ambitions of becoming Algeria’s first travel-tech unicorn.
