M-KOPA Kenya Mobility Secures USD 30 M Debt For E-Motorbike Financing

M-KOPA Kenya Mobility, the electric motorcycle financing arm of African fintech M-KOPA, has secured a USD 30 M senior debt facility from Dutch development bank FMO to accelerate electric motorcycle adoption in Kenya.

Established in 2023, the Kenya-based subsidiary finances electric motorbikes through a pay-as-you-go model, offering insurance, roadside assistance, theft tracking, and warranties. The three-tranche facility includes USD 22.5 M in direct loans and USD 7.5 M to refinance an existing bridge facility, with up to USD 23 M earmarked for new electric bike financing.

Founded in 2012, M-KOPA operates across Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, serving over 10 million customers. The funding aims to address the shortage of local-currency financing for Kenya’s growing clean mobility sector.
