SA-Born Healthleap Raises USD 38 M to Expand AI-Powered Clinical Screening

Healthleap, a clinical AI company founded in South Africa in 2022 by siblings Jemima and Josiah Meyer, has raised USD 38 M across seed and Series A rounds to expand its AI-powered hospital screening platform.

The funding includes an USD 8 M seed round co-led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital, and a USD 30 M Series A led by Hummingbird Ventures. The company is now headquartered in San Francisco, US.

Healthleap’s software analyses electronic health records, including clinicians’ notes, to flag hospital patients who may be at risk of conditions such as malnutrition and delirium, helping care teams identify cases that require further review

The company says its platform has contributed to a 39% increase in identified and treated malnutrition cases and generated USD 11 M in additional reimbursement within one health system.

Healthleap will use the new funding to expand its engineering, product and sales teams, broaden screening to more than 40 conditions, and extend its services beyond hospitals into outpatient and home care.
