Smartphone/Laptop Prices Have Risen 30% In 3 Months For Dubious Reasons

As of February 2020, the sum of NGN 58 K could purchase the impressive Xiaomi Mi A3 in Nigeria. Today, the same smartphone goes for a non-negotiable NGN 85 K. That’s a price jump of 46.5 percent in just 3 months!

A 2019 MacBook Pro was selling for around NGN 450 K as of January this year. The same laptop now costs between NGN 550 K to NGN 600 K in Nigeria. At best, it’s a price surge of 22 percent. At worst, it’s a 33 percent hike. Either way, it’s a disturbance.
