Webrock, Stockholm-based venture capital, and private equity firm, has collaborated with Healthforce, a digital health startup majority-owned by Dis-Chem, South Africa’s largest retail pharmacy chain, to create a new digital primary care platform.
The launch of the platform in Africa follows a pre-series A round of USD 3 Mn in funding secured. According to sources, the platform will debut in South Africa first and expand throughout the continent.
The new venture will focus on the uninsured, B2C segment through a freemium-type offering. On-demand and planned consultations with nurses, general practitioners, mental health specialists, and continuing wellness monitoring are available through the platform, which uses a freemium model and innovative techniques to cut data costs. It also provides chronic care management and will be integrated with Healthforce’s broader primary care offering.
