Yesterday, the accelerator announced its 8th cohort, which includes ten startups chosen from almost 1,000 applications. Since 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program has been a supporter of the startup ecosystem, providing essential help and guidance.

The 2024 cohort features startups from Kenya (3), Nigeria (5), Rwanda (1), and South Africa (1) that use artificial intelligence to solve pressing challenges on the continent.

Last year, Google announced the launch of an AI First program designed to assist African startups in addressing diverse challenges using AI. Although not clearly specified, the selected startups seem to be part of the same program. The AI First program aims to connect startups with Google’s expertise and products to help them grow their businesses through the use of AI and technology.

Participants of the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First program would receive a 10-week equity-free accelerator program along with technical assistance, mentorship, access to Google’s AI expertise and networking opportunities.
