Zeno, an e-mobility startup founded by Michael Spencer in 2022, has raised USD 9.5 M in seed funding to further its efforts in transforming transportation across East Africa through swappable battery technology. The funding round was led by Lowercarbon Capital and Toyota Ventures, with participation from investors including 4DX Ventures, Active Impact, Advantedge, MCJ, and RedBlue.
Based in San Francisco, Nairobi, and Bangalore, Zeno has onboarded Alastair Sussock, a former co-founder of SafeBoda, to its operations team.
Zeno aims to produce affordable electric motorbikes that can be leased or purchased. The startup is capitalizing on the growing interest in e-vehicles across East Africa, with markets in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Kenya showing strong adoption of electric transportation.
