Ora Technologies Raises USD 7.5 M Series A For Moroccan Superapp Expansion
Ora Technologies Raises USD 7.5 M Series A For Moroccan Superapp Expansion

Moroccan startup Ora Technologies has secured USD 7.5 M in a Series A round led by Azur Innovation Management, with participation from local strategic investors. This brings Ora’s total funding to USD 11.9 M since its 2023 launch and it follows a pre-Series A announced in March.

Founded by Omar Alami, Ora aims to be Morocco’s answer to superapps like WeChat or Gojek, combining mobile payments (Ora Cash), food delivery (KooulMaroc), e-commerce, messaging, and social features—all tailored for Moroccan users in Darija, French, Arabic, English, and Spanish.

The fresh capital will fuel technology upgrades, regional expansion, and customer acquisition, while the company explores microcredit integrations to deepen its fintech play. Ora Cash, launched in partnership with Banque Centrale Populaire’s M2T, already supports mobile transfers, bill payments, and QR transactions via 5,000+ agent locations, targeting underbanked populations.

With 300,000+ downloads, Ora is gaining early traction in a market where digital payment adoption remains low but is a government priority. However, challenges persist, including competition from Glovo and Orange Money, regulatory hurdles, and the broader struggle of superapps to replicate Asian success outside the region.
