Africa’s creative economy is getting a boost as Filmmakers Mart (FMM), a Nigeria-born digital platform that connects filmmakers with vetted production services—from location scouting to logistics—has secured investment from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Sony Innovation Fund Africa.
It’s IFC’s first ever investment in Africa’s audiovisual sector, and the duo’s first co-investment in the space. FMM, already active in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, and South Africa, will use the funding to expand into new markets, roll out post-production tools, and train more creators.
Using AI to automate workflows and boost access to trusted service providers, FMM wants to become the “operating system for creative industries in emerging markets,” says CEO Eric Kafui Okyerefo.
Sony’s involvement brings a global edge with expertise in content distribution and access to international networks. The backing signals growing investor belief in Africa’s storytelling talent and the infrastructure it needs to thrive.
