Zeno Raises USD 25 M Series A To Scale Electric Motorbikes In East Africa

Zeno has raised USD 25 M in Series A funding to expand its electric motorbike production and battery-swapping infrastructure across East Africa.

The round includes USD 20.5 million in equity led by Congruent Ventures, with participation from Active Impact Investments and Lowercarbon Capital, plus a USD 4.5 M debt facility from Camber Road and Trifecta Capital.

Founded by Michael Spencer, Zeno builds the Emara electric motorbike and an app-controlled battery swap network aimed at reducing operating costs for East Africa’s bodaboda riders.

Since launching about 18 months ago, the company has produced over 800 bikes and deployed more than 150 charging locations across Kenya and Uganda, with over 25,000 customers reportedly waiting for delivery.
