Egypt-based biotech startup Reme-D has raised USD 500 K from Global Innovation Fund to scale its room-temperature stable PCR diagnostic kits across Africa. Founded in 2022 by Salma Tammam, the startup emerged from a Covid-19-era consortium tackling testing shortages.
Its freeze-dried, cold-chain-independent kits address a critical infrastructure gap, reducing costs by up to 40% while maintaining high accuracy. Reme-D currently serves 92 hospitals across markets, including Egypt, Iraq, Sudan, and Kenya, testing about 50,000 patients monthly.
The new funding will support expansion into Nigeria and Libya, as well as scaling production and advancing R&D into diagnostics for cancer, genetic conditions, and maternal health.
