Helium Health, a Nigerian healthtech startup founded in 2014, has secured a NGN 3.4 B (USD 2.5 M) grant from Google.org to deploy artificial intelligence tools aimed at identifying pregnancy risks and improving maternal healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The funding will support HeliumMum, the company’s maternal health initiative, which targets 1.9 million pregnant women over three years, beginning in Lagos before expanding to Delta, Kano and Oyo states.
Co-founded by Adegoke Olubusi, Dimeji Sofowora and Tito Ovia, Helium Health develops electronic medical records, hospital management and healthcare financing software.
Its new initiative will combine AI-powered risk detection with clinical decision-support tools to help community health workers identify pregnancy complications earlier. The company says its previous maternal health programmes have reached more than 3.5 million women.
