Polish Crypto Exchange Owner Presumably Takes His Own Life Over Liquidity

By  |  July 27, 2019

Co-owner of Polish cryptocurrency exchange BitMarket, named Tobiaz Niemiro was found dead near his apartment a few days ago according to a Cointelegraph report

Initially, the circumstances that surrounded his death proved hard to ascertain, as an autopsy was yet to be conducted. Tobiaz was found lying in his apartment with a wound near his skull in the city of Olsztyn, where he resides.

According to Polish political news-focused publication Gazeta Wyborcza, the crypto trader committed suicide

And We Have Reasons To Believe So

While the authorities are working to determine the cause of death, it is worthy of telling that his company, BitMarket suffered liquidity. Tobiaz purchased the exchange a year after it was launched, joining hands with his partner Marcin Aszkielowicz. July beginning, the platform revealed that it lacked liquidity and brought trading activities to an abrupt halt

“Dear Users, We regret to inform you that due to the loss of liquidity, since 08/07/2019, Bitmarket.pl/net was forced to cease its operations. We will inform you about further steps.”

That was the message every user got when they tried accessing the exchange via the website.

400 users reportedly were affected by the sudden wrap-up for which Niemiro claimed he had nothing to do with, saying he was a victim as well.

I lost everything because somebody led to the collapse of the stock exchange. Now I’m losing face and good name for which I’ve worked all my life. I am one of the victims,” he stated.

That’s Not All

According to the Prosecutor of the Olsztyn-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office Mr Arkadiusz Szulc, the body of Tobiaz as discovered does not point to any possible crime, neither does it give reason to believe that there were third parties involved.

Then, Adam Socha, a debata.olsztyn.pl journalist said the deceased sent him a long email at 2:57 am on Thursday, July 25, the day of his demise.

According to the “revealed” last sentence of the email, Tobiaz said he did not do what he did because of his business, but for an emotional reason.

“The reason for my behaviour is not BitMarket, I’ve been struggling with depression for years, and I’m hiding it. I just do not have strength”.

The email was long. He wrote that businessmen connected in a different way with BitMarket are simply cheats. He gave the names. I gave the email to the prosecutor’s office. He also wrote that he has materials for me. I did not manage to pick up, but on Friday, July 26, a person came to me.

Tobiasz Niemiro asked this person to provide me with a recording of his conversation with businessmen associated with BitMarket. I also made the recording to the prosecutor’s office immediately. I do not hide that for fear of my own safety.

Finally

Olsztyn.wm.pl updates with information about Tobiaz’s death, pointing that preliminary report leads to believe that he committed suicide by pushing himself with his own weapon.

What’s more, he is not the first person to take his own life in the catering industry of Olsztyn. The same report says one Jane Tandyrak committed suicide in the same way the crypto trader did.
