African Genetics Company BioCertica Raises USD 1.6 Mn Seed Round

BioCertica, one of Africa’s first direct-to-consumer genetics company to introduce polygenic risk scoring (PRS) to generate DNA test results has just launched a USD 1.6 Mn seed round after raising USD 650 K in pre-seed funding. The funding round was led by the Ministry of Programming (MOP).

BioCertica is a user’s-privacy-centered genetic testing platform launched in August 2020. It displays a user’s customized genetic results on a built-for-purpose application available on all major app stores. The company currently provides a range of lifestyle-based DNA test kits for nutrition and well-being, ancestry, fitness, weight management, cardiovascular health, skincare, mental health, and other traits.
