Meta And Startupbootcamp Launch AI Programs in MENA

Meta and Startupbootcamp have joined forces to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the MENA region. This partnership aims to bolster local startups by introducing advanced AI technologies through the launch of Llama Design Drive, a program tailored to address the specific needs of the MENA region.

Startups joining the program may get fast-tracked into a global initiative sponsored by Meta. They could receive up to USD 500 K to further develop their products.

The program is designed to provide comprehensive support. It will include three four-week sprints held in the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. These sessions will offer intensive capacity-building workshops and mentorship, ensuring that participating startups are well-guided and supported in their journey.

The collaboration between Meta and Startupbootcamp aims to bridge the gap between established companies and AI startups to foster home-grown innovation using AI. Llama Design Drive would enable MENA startups to utilize Meta’s open-source Llama 3.1 model to create mobility, aviation, energy, retail, and real estate solutions.

In absolute terms, the Middle East is expected to capture 2% of the total global benefits of AI in 2030, with an expected annual growth of 20-34% in AI’s contribution to the region’s GDP.

Two days ago, Google also released its cohort for AI-driven African startups. Ten startups leveraging AI technology to solve challenges across various sectors in the continent were shortlisted. With the growing focus on AI worldwide, more and more global tech giants are expected to join the race in Africa.
