Sistema.bio, a major player in biogas technology and Africa’s largest biodigester company aimed at supporting family farmers has announced the acquisition of Inclusive Energy, a UK-based company known for its IoT-based monitoring solutions for biogas and solar energy systems.

With the acquisition, Sistema.bio which boasts operations in Kenya is set to integrate Inclusive Energy’s advanced digital monitoring tools.

This move, according to Sistema.bio, will enable it to provide more robust digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (dMRV) capabilities within its biogas systems, enhancing carbon reduction projects and service offerings for farmers worldwide.

Sistema.bio says that this acquisition is a strategic step to enhance its biogas platform, making it the first of its kind to deliver digitally verified carbon credits.

The company believes that incorporating Inclusive Energy’s technology will enable precise, real-time tracking of biogas systems, helping smallholder farmers monitor and optimize their renewable energy use more effectively. This upgrade will also support Sistema.bio’s larger objective of reducing global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 1% annually by 2030.

Sistema.bio CEO and co-founder, Alex Eaton, highlighted the company’s long-standing relationship with Inclusive Energy, stating that their digital MRV platform has already been integrated into thousands of Sistema.bio biogas units over the past three years. “This acquisition allows us to accelerate both technologies to better serve farmers and reduce carbon and methane emissions,” Eaton said. He emphasized that this merger signals a new phase in the company’s commitment to supporting climate action through scaled solutions for family farmers worldwide.

The integration is expected to streamline operations for both companies, with Sistema.bio taking advantage of Inclusive Energy’s expertise in remote monitoring to improve the accuracy of carbon emissions reporting. In addition, the acquisition aims to elevate the customer experience for farmers, enabling better service through data-driven insights and predictive maintenance.

Inclusive Energy’s CEO, Vijay Bhopal, echoed this sentiment, noting that Sistema.bio’s commitment to innovation at scale makes it an ideal partner for Inclusive Energy. “Together, we’re poised to drive the biogas market forward and serve millions of farmers, ensuring that our technologies can maximize their impact in the carbon markets,” Bhopal stated.

The acquisition also reflects a broader trend in the renewable energy sector, where digital monitoring tools are increasingly valued for their ability to deliver precise, verifiable data that is crucial for carbon credits and sustainability reporting. The merger will allow Sistema.bio to strengthen its position in high-quality carbon credit markets while improving service reliability for its farming clientele.

In a statement, Sistema.bio’s Independent Board Chair Joyce Cacho underscored the potential impact of this partnership on farmers’ return on investment (ROI) in biogas systems. According to Cacho, the addition of Inclusive Energy’s dMRV technology aligns with Sistema.bio’s mission to bring scalable, sustainable energy solutions to family farmers globally.

In addition, Sistema.bio confirmed that all existing Inclusive Energy contracts will remain intact, ensuring that current customers and partners retain their agreed-upon data privacy, service access, and support commitments.
