Senegal-based electric mobility startup Solarbox has closed a USD 1 M pre-seed funding round to meet the growing demand for its solutions across Senegal and neighbouring regions. The round attracted investors such as Digital Energy Facility (a collaborative initiative led by Agence Française de Développement, IetP, and Gaia Impact Fund), Launch Africa Ventures, JLL Foundation, and Teranga Capital.
Founded in 2022 by Tijan Watt and incubated by Wuri Ventures, Solarbox specializes in designing, assembling, and deploying custom-built electric light vehicles, including two- and three-wheelers, tailored for corporate use. The company integrates solar charging systems, financing options, and fleet management solutions to provide businesses sustainable transportation alternatives.
Tijan Watt also co-founded Wuri Ventures and has over two decades of experience promoting African entrepreneurship. The new funding will enable Solarbox to enhance its operations and address the demand for clean, efficient mobility solutions in West Africa.
