Kenyan Startup Velocity Secures Africa Jobs Fund Investment To Expand Nurse Placements

Velocity, a Kenyan labour mobility startup founded in 2025 by Lalit Kumar, Siddharth Gusain and Betty Chelangat, has secured investment from the Africa Jobs Fund to expand its nurse training and placement programme into Malawi and Zambia.

Based in Kenya, Velocity trains qualified African nurses in German to the B2 level required by German employers and regulators, then connects them with hospitals through placement partners.

Its fully online programme is taught by Kenyan nurses already working in Germany and takes about 10 months. Employers cover training and placement costs, while nurses pay a refundable commitment fee.

Velocity currently has 300+ active learners and a waitlist exceeding 2,500, with all candidates who have interviewed with employers successfully placed. Germany’s nursing shortage and unemployment among qualified nurses in African countries underpin the company’s expansion.
