North Africa This Week: Startup Events Glimpses [22nd-28th October, 2018]
It’s that time of the week again when we do a recap on some of the notable startup events which took place in an around the African startup ecosystem in the past week. And North Africa’s burgeoning startup ecosystem contributed its fair share of these events.
While parts of the region did see some dust raised in the form of imminent investment agreements and acquisitions, it is countries like Tunisia and Egypt that made the news for startup/entrepreneurship-focused events. And as always, WeeTracker’s Startup Events Glimpses has been keeping tabs on some of the events that were successfully hosted in the region’s ecosystem. Now, here is a lowdown on startup events that took place in North Africa this past week.
- Women-Focused Social Entrepreneurship Event Held In Tunisia
This event was the result of concerted efforts between Lab’ess Accelerator of Social Innovation, Bloomi Coworking Family, and The Next Women Tunisia. The theme of the event was centered around social entrepreneurship with special attention to women development.
The paid event featured a number of notable personalities in the ecosystem including Latifa El Ghezal of Sciencia, Imen Jani of We Improve by Imen Jani, Iman Chabane of Little Jenaina, and Khadija Jallouli of HawKar, who were guest speakers at the event. Participants at the event had the opportunity to benefit from the insight of seasoned female entrepreneurs on the subject of social entrepreneurship as it concerns women.
The Next Women Tunisia is a professional platform for women entrepreneurs. It is aimed at supporting the growth of startups created by women entrepreneurs. The event took place on Tuesday, 23rd October 2018, at Lab’ess – Accelerator of Social Innovation in Aryanah, Tunisia.
- Narrative PR Summit Kicked Off In Egypt
Under the patronage of Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, the Narrative PR Summit kicked off today, 28th October 2018, at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza in Egypt. The summit is aimed at building the identity of the country, with business leaders and policymakers looking to take part in the “narrative”.
The third edition of the annual Narrative PR Summit will be looking to take a cue from previous editions which featured discussions between trendsetters and industry practitioners on ways to move the country’s business sector forward. It also billed to feature real case studies and in-depth understanding of the market provided by key industry experts and opinion leaders. Amongst the speakers expected to share their insights at this year’s event are Mahmoud Mohieldin; Senior VP of the World Bank Group, Ghada Waly; Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, Rania Al-Mashat; Egyptian Minister of Tourism, Mohamed Sultan; COO of CIB, and a host of other speakers.
Topics of discussion are expected to revolve around such aspects as technology, investment, entrepreneurship, education, exports, culture, talent, national prominence, brand story narration, and entertainment.
