The high point of the just concluded I-Startup Southwest Demo Day was when Nigerian Life Pro Mills emerged the overall winner and won the USD 7 K grant.

Life Pro Mills is a food manufacturing startup that is currently up-scaling the potentials of cheap sources of vital organic nutrients through their flagship product named Hiru (deodorized locust bean).

The event, which featured a total of ten startups, was organized by Premier Hub Innovation Center. The Demo Day marked the conclusion of the I-Startup Southwest incubation program. It was an intervention scheme by the federal government, emerging from the National Social Investment Program (NSIP), under the auspices of the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The program was established in a bid to fast-track industrialization in Nigeria by providing training and mentorship for a wide range of tech-enabled skills while empowering the Nigerian youths for the entrepreneurship journey.

The Founder of Premier Hub Innovation Center, Ibukun Obe, narrates that the move is an entrepreneurship initiative intended to support and equip early stage/idea stage startups in Southwest Nigeria who have innovative concepts in the sectors of Agriculture, Manufacturing, and ICT.

According to her, the program bolsters these startups with intensive trainings, mentorship, business modeling, and seed funding.
During I-Startup Southwest, idea bootcamps were held with participants in the region, with more than 75 cofounders attending the training modules. At the end of the bootcamp, the participants got to tabs with design thinking principles, business model development and making quintessential pitches.

The ten startups that made it through to the finals and received grants were given the avenue to pitch before local and international investors for possible funding opportunities.
