A Kenyan resort has been ranked best in the world in 32nd annual Readers’ Choice Awards by Conde Nast Traveller, a luxury and lifestyle travel magazine.

Sirikoi Lodge, a safari camp nestled in the plains of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy beat over 10,000 other hotels to emerge the best in the 2019 ranking.

Second in the ranking came US’s Palm Springs’ L’Horizon Resort and Spa and Zambia’s Chindeni Bush Camp came in third place.

Sirikoi was one of the five Kenyan resorts that made it to the top 50 list. Others included: Richard’s River Camp located in Masai Mara which was ranked 6th, Elewana’s Elsa’s Kopje in Meru National Park ranked 11th, Ol Jogi Home ranked 17th and Elewana Elephant Pepper Camp in Masai Mara which was 30th.

“As we reviewed this year’s results, one thing became apparent: Your curiosity. You visited nearly 10,000 hotels, resorts, and destination spas rated, but barely 15 per cent made the cut. And we were certainly impressed by the ones that did. The 2019 results were especially exciting for us, pulling in new openings and new parts of the world,” Conde stated.

In this year’s survey, 600,000 registered voters took part weighing in on their favourite resorts in the world, this is according to Conde Nast Traveller. Out of the 10,000 hotels, resorts and rated, 50 were listed for each category.

This was not the first time Sirikoi was receiving an award as it has ranked as Africa’s Leading Luxury Lodge in World Travel Awards before. Locally, it won the Eco-lodge of the year award in 2015.
