Enablement Is African Healthtech’s Fiercest Challenge, Not Regulation

There’s an ongoing brain drain in African healthcare, and it becomes more evident daily. That’s why there’s a mass exodus of doctors from the region coinciding with an influx of tech-enabled companies looking to bridge the existing gaps. 

In Nigeria, for instance, there are only 0.3 doctors per 1,000 persons in a country of more than 200 million, according to the WHO. In the entire Africa, it is 1 doctor to 10,000 people on average. Considering the ongoing pandemic, there could be no better time for innovation in the continent’s medical industry.
