TiE Africa, one of the youngest chapters of TiE Global, has appointed a new leadership team comprising Akshay Grover, President; Sandeep Khapre, Vice President and Lavina Masand Mehra, Executive Director.

The team held its inaugural event at the Aspire Center in Nairobi on Thursday, October 27, 2022, where the new TiE Africa leadership team, charter members, investors, and industry leaders discussed key objectives and initiatives TiE Africa would be focusing on in the coming year 2022-23.

TiE Africa will have a series of initiatives that will focus on enabling entrepreneurs in the region. Entrepreneurs will be provided with a platform to showcase their business ideas, get access to early-stage funding, receive mentorship from seasoned industry leaders, and have inroads into multiple markets. There will also be focused initiatives to create equal access for Women and enable the Youth.

Akshay Grover is the Global CEO of Cellulant, a pan-African fintech business operating in 35+ markets. Akshay is an avid angel investor. He has a background in TMT investment banking and private equity.

Sandeep Khapre is the Regional CEO of BDO East Africa, with offices in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Ethiopia.  He is an alumnus of Essec University France and Cornell University US. Sandeep has led Advisory teams in over 20 countries in Africa for over 25 years.

Lavina Masand Mehra is a Chartered Accountant holding an MBA and a law degree. She brings rich experience working as a Finance and Management professional with major international humanitarian organizations worldwide.

Akshay Grover acknowledged the contributions of the founding team of TiE Africa led by Vishal Agarwal during a difficult period for the world at large – 2020-21. He said, “Vishal Agarwal, Sandeep Khapre and Baljinder Sharma enabled setting up of the foundation of TiE Africa and we are aiming to build strongly on that legacy and create a meaningful impact in the region.” 

TiE Global is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley by a group of successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals devoted to entrepreneurs in all industries, at all stages, from incubation, and throughout the entrepreneurial lifecycle. The organization has more than 15000 members, 61 chapters in more than 14 countries, and mentored/funded more than 10,000 startups. With a global reach and a local focus, the heart of TiE efforts lie in its five foundational programs, Mentoring, Networking, Education, Funding, and Incubation.

The organization has opened invitations to the upcoming TiE flagship event – TiE Global Summit, in December 2022 in Hyderabad, India. This event is expected to bring together investors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders across the globe.
