d.light, a Kenyan solar home systems supplier, has raised USD 10 Mn from Proparco, the subsidiary of the French Development Agency (AFD) group responsible for private sector financing. d.light plans to use the investment to develop its activities worldwide, particularly in Africa.
The company sells kits that include everything from solar lamps to solar house systems that can power several LED light bulbs, mobile phones, and a radio or tiny television mainly distributed in rural areas where households have limited purchasing power and low access to electricity.
Pay-as-you-go facilitates the distribution of solar home systems, which is facilitated by mobile banking, which is available everywhere, even in distant places.
