Jumia Uganda Gets New CEO, Braces For Black Friday

Jumia, a major e-commerce player in Africa, has announced Ron Kawamara as the new Chief Executive Officer of its Uganda arm.

Ron, who previously served as the regional managing director of Jumia Food, East Africa, assumes this new office with his wealth of experience in the African e-commerce industry. This development was announced by officials in a press conference at the end of last week.

Kawamara revealed that the online shop has been a part of his life for nearly five years and pledged his unparalleled service to manage the company on the backs of its incredible customer base, great tech, and workforce. According to him, Jumia is responding to the need of all Ugandans.

Massimiliano Spalazzi, Jumia’s co-CEO said that Kawamara was selected and chosen after a thorough and thoughtful search process, after which they were thrilled to have him take in the CEO role.

Additionally, reports say that Kawamara brings in the offing, a stellar leadership reputation, s wealth of consumer experience, and a lifelong passion for e-commerce to Jumia – all of which are the key condiments in the continued evolution of the online shop, according to Spalazzi.

Meanwhile, at the same presser, an official announcement was made as per the launch of the Black Friday campaign – massive discounted sales event that would run from November 7 to December 7.

According to Kawamara, discounts would be offered on 5000 products, and the campaign is expected to inject Shs 17.5 Bn into Uganda’s economy.
