As Facebook And Instagram Introduces Time-Management Tools, Entrepreneurs Can Now Stick To Their Schedules

Social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Mark Zuckerberg, have introduced new tools that can help people manage their time on the platforms. One of the new tools, known as the dashboard, acts as a daily reminder and a new way to limit notifications. The tools were developed based on collaboration and inspiration leading mental health experts and organizations, academics, Facebook’s extensive research and feedback from its online community.

Since its founding in 2004, Facebook has grown to have 2.3 billion monthly active users, 1.37 billion daily active users and 26 million monthly active users from Nigeria.

The Product Management Director at Instagram, Ameet Ranadive and the Director of Research at Facebook, David Ginsberg, informed in a post that they want the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram to be intentional, positive and inspiring.

“We hope that these tools hive people more control over the time they spend on our platforms as well as foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them”, he said.

To access the tools, Ranadive explained that users are to go to the settings page on either app. For Instagram, select “Your Activity” and on Facebook, click on “Your Time on Facebook.” At the top of either platform, you will see a dashboard that will show you your average time spent on Instagram or Facebook.

Beneath the dashboard, you can as well set a daily reminder to give you an alert when you reach the amount of time you want to spend on that app for that day. The reminder can be modified or canceled at any time, and you can also tap on “Notification Settings” to quickly access the new “Mute Push Notification” setting. That will help you limit notifications from Facebook and Instagram for a period of time you need to focus on other things.

According to Ranadive, Facebook has a responsibility to help people get a grasp of how much time they spend on the platform, in order that they better manage their experience. “Although we have more work to do, in the past year, we have introduced many tools to assist people in controlling their experience on Facebook and Instagram, such as New Feed quality improvement on Facebook and the “You’re All Caught Up” message in Feed on Instagram”.

Facebook is also engineering an ongoing global commitment to suicide prevention, including the expansion of proactive detection and improvement of first responder identification.
