Elham Education; a Libyan startup that is looking to expand frontiers in the Edtech sector have emerged winners of the inaugural edition of Seedstars Tripoli pitch event.

Last month, WeeTracker announced that Seedstars World was coming to Libya for the first time ever with the maiden edition scheduled to take place in Tripoli; the Libyan capital.

The event which took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Monday, August 6th, featured a total of 11 startups who were drawn from various fields including fintech, Edtech eCommerce, logistics, eHealth, Advertising, and marketing, amongst others, having satisfied some set criteria in terms of age, funding already raised, scalability and viability of product.

The competing startups pitched in front of a panel of judges which included such notable personalities as Intissar Rajabang; Country Director of MEDA Libya, Mounia Attiga; Founder and Managing Director of Gemstones, Omar Shuran; CEO of Libyan Internet Society, as well as Naaman El Bouri; Founder and CEO of Tadawul Financial Group.

These individuals formed the jury which named Elham Education eventual winners of the competition at the climax of the pitch event. The Edtech startup which was founded two years ago by its current CEO, Mallek Ajaj, emerged from the competition with most of the spoils having been placed in pole position by its model which incorporates five different educational services that can enhance Libya’s education system.

Benghazi-based enterprise, She Codes and Subha-based food delivery service, Yummy, managed second and third place finishes respectively. She Codes is an enterprise which aims to equip women and children with coding and computational skills. Yummy, on the other hand, is in the business of food logistics.

Wajabat, Ematec, Libya Crowdfunder, Sinbad, Techneon Group, Almo3een Alwal, Oktoviz and Homemade, make up the rest of the 11 startups who pitched at the Seedstars Tripoli event.

As part of the perks that come with winning the first ever Seedstars event to be held in Libya, Elham Education will now go on to represent Libya at both regional and global editions of the competition. The startup also now has a shot at winning up to USD 1 Mn in funding at the Seedstars World Global Summit slated for Lausanne, Switzerland, next spring.
