Singer Akon To Launch His Own Cryptocurrency

By  |  June 21, 2018

Akon has announced the launch of his digital currency fittingly dubbed Akoin. This he made known during a panel at an international festival of creativity – Cannes Lions- where he noted that it will be available in a fortnight. He expressed his hopes that the cryptocurrency would help his project, Lighting Project – an initiative to provide solar power to homes spread throughout the continent. So, this means that we can now add Akon to the list of celebrities who have joined the cryptocurrency bandwagon.

Akon rightly explained that he thinks “Blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system.” He added that “It also allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow the government to do those things that are keeping them down.”

Page Six reports that an “Akon Crypto City” is undergoing development on a land piece measuring 2,000 acres which the singer was given by Macky Sall, the President of Senegal. The project was described as the first of its kind and 100 percent crypto-based with Akoin at the center of transactional life. When asked concerning the logistics of this crypto-based city and how it will function on practice, Akon said, “I come with the concepts and let the geeks figure it out.”

Akon’s website states that the project will amalgamate leading Smart City planning designs with a blank canvas for cryptonizing out daily human and business exchanges, towards inventing a radical new way of existence.

At the same event, this Smack That singer as well reiterated his interest in venturing into the political sphere, along which he communicated that he is not only ready to lock horns with Donald Trump for the position of POTUS but as well jockey for with Kanye West. In more ways than one, the African-American celebrity expressed his aggression and willingness to pit himself against President Donald Trump.
