Kenyan Man Who Moved To America As A Rugby Player Has Just Landed A Plum Cabinet Position In US

Hodgen Mainda moved to the United States of America as a rubgy player, eleven years later, he takes pride in being the first Kenyan to serve as the new commissioner of Commerce and Insurance in the State of Tennesee.

Prior to his appointment, the 42-year-old Kenyan worked in the government relations and business development roles in Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga.

While announcing his appointment, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said, “Mainda joins my cabinet after an outstanding career as a community leader in Chattanooga.

“He is respected for his ability to build partnerships across multiple sectors and we welcome his leadership to such a multifaceted department like commerce and insurance.”

Mainda has established his presence in the Trump-led country, he serves in Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, sits on the University of Tennesse at Chattanooga Chancellor’s Roundtable and the College of Business Advisory Board.

He previously worked with the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga (EPB) where he built partnerships across the state and federal level and increased EPB’s role in regional economic development.

State Representative, Robin Smith, the chairman of the House Insurance Committee said “I am thrilled for the state of Tennessee to have such a wonderful young leader in such a very important role.Mainda will do a fantastic job based on his history of working on many projects in the Hamilton County area.”

Through his Twitter account, Mainda thanked the Tenessee Governor saying,” It is a true honor and a privilege to serve our state in this capacity. I am truly humbled and look forward to joining the team and the work ahead.
