Jumia Launches New Warehouse And Logistics Solutions In Kenya
Jumia Kenya, an eCommerce startup, has opened a new integrated warehouse and logistics network facility in Nairobi to improve the shopping experience of its customers. The facility will help the company to transform its Jumia Express operations and help revolutionize its logistics operations by increasing storage capacity for warehouse expansion and providing converged services.
According to the company’s CEO, the facility has allowed it to consolidate its multiple warehouses and network operations under one roof. The 11,000-metres squared warehouse will serve as a convergence point for various Jumia’s services and will scale up its warehousing capacity in the region. The warehouse will also eliminate the need to transport items from warehouses to sorting centers (where orders are usually processed to users), thereby reducing the operational logistics cost and gas emissions of first-mile deliveries.
Jumia seeks to eliminate first-mile transportation between warehouses and sorting centers, resulting in lower carbon emissions. The e-commerce giant claims that combining its operations helps it reduce up to 15 truck trips per day, significantly lowering carbon emissions. The company is also extending its logistics offering to other local e-commerce players who are not listed in Jumia but wish to “leverage its network, technology, and expertise for last-mile and line haul deliveries.
