Lyrid Arrives in Nairobi, Powering Kenya’s Digital Nomad Dream

By  |  August 1, 2025

Lyrid, a cloud infrastructure platform headquartered in the United States, has officially confirmed its expansion into Kenya, long considered Africa’s ‘Silicon Savannah’. The company has launched ‘Lyrid Savannah’ in Nairobi, a move intended to provide local data centre resources and support the city’s expanding technology community. This expansion follows a year of planning by Lyrid.

Lyrid Savannah is designed to offer Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and localised data centre resources at competitive prices. This addresses a recognised need among Nairobi’s innovators for accessible and affordable cloud infrastructure. It also follows on Kenya making the ‘digital nomad’ visa category official, emphasising the need for cloud services.

Building on prior collaborations in the United States and Indonesia, Lyrid has already initiated partnerships with various data centres, organisations, and developers across Nairobi. Through Lyrid’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform, Kenyan users can now access existing data centre hardware more cost-effectively compared to traditional large-scale cloud hosting options.

Handoyo Sutanto, CEO and founder of Lyrid, announced this initiative in Nairobi on July 31, 2025. He noted the increasing prominence of the region and its innovators on the global stage, indicating opportunities Lyrid plans to pursue.

The company has observed a rise in internet infrastructure investment across East Africa, which is contributing to improved internet quality throughout the country. This development, alongside growth in sectors such as fintech and logistics, influenced Lyrid’s decision to establish a local presence.

While the introduction of Lyrid Savannah represents a significant step, the company has indicated that its engagement in the region is in its early stages, suggesting further involvement and investment in Kenya’s digital landscape.
